Sweetwater Creek State Park

This trail/park is great for all ages, and it is also near the Metro Atlanta area. It is about 30 minutes outside of the city. The trail is known to have the ruins of the iconic New Manchester Mill, that was destroyed in the Civil War. This structure was also the filming location for the Hunger Games!

Parking is right at the visitors center, which leads you right onto different trail paths. The different trails are all color coded, Red trail, Yellow trail, White Trail, and the Orange Trail.

Red Trail: 2 Miles. This trail is along the shores of the boulder lined creek - overlooking the New Manchester Mills ruins.

Yellow Trail: 3.4 Miles. This trail crosses the creek by a large bridge. You also get a view of the mill ruins and you get to see a cave that was once inhabited by Native Americans.

While Trail: 4.1 Miles. Worth the walk, because you get to seethe view of the sweet water creek flowing downstream.

Orange Trail: 4.75 Miles. Higher elevations on this trail, but you get to see the tree views of the Atlanta skyline.

Not a big fan of walking and hiking too long? You can also do paddling and boating on the creek. You can bring your own equipment or rent a kayak or canoe from he park.

Overall fun quick hike for the family or a day trip when you want to get away from the busy city life!
